Your paintings for this collection are focused on plants, what inspires you about working with plants?
I love all of the variations that they come in, the inspiration feels never-ending. Whenever I have artist’s block I usually sketch out one of my plants and sometimes those quick sketches turn into paintings.
Which painting is your favourite created for this collection?
The Fauna Navy Sweater and Fauna White Hoodie are definitely my favourites, I can just picture myself running through a tropical forest made up of those plants. It was also really fun to design, it was like a puzzle trying to see where each plant would fit in.
Any weird plant facts for us?
Also, maybe not so much of a weird fact, but a cool one is that there are around 320,000 species of plants – and they’re still discovering more!
Tell us more about your previous plant focused work.
I like to play around with colour palettes that aren’t particularly true to life, especially when it comes to my plant works. I love the way that changing the colour palette can enhance a particular character or vibe. I think drawing palms are my favourite, they’re so simple and fun to incorporate into other works.
Do you like to surround yourself with plants in your studio?
I like to surround myself with plants in all of my environments! At least as many as I can handle without killing any.
Where do you go in your spare time to relax and spend time with nature?
Such a tough question because there’s so many! Recently we have been going to a retired reservoir that isn’t too far. It has become our weekly Saturday morning tradition of walking around the reservoir and then having a little dip afterwards. It’s so nice to escape the city for a little while.
