Chess is old. It’s a very old game. Been around since at least the 7th Century A.D. Older than us, older than you. Common consensus is that it travelled out of India along the Silk Road and that the bishops we use today started life as elephants. Also, the word ‘chess’ comes from the Persian word ‘shāh’ (meaning ‘king’), and ‘checkmate’ comes from ‘shāh māt’ (‘the king is dead’).
Basically, a history of chess is a history of the world. It’s a treasure trove of stories, melded cultures, and whispers of the past reaching out to us through an 8×8 checkerboard.
Are you not inspired? We were. Our new AW22 Season features a Chess Club collection, inspired by the game that swept the world and never went away. Not to brag, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the same was true of the Chess Club collection. A collection worthy of The Immortal Game.
