Yarn-a-holic, knit wit, yes we are talking Men's knitwear, knitwear for me, they and them, and knitwear for men. I believe it is one of the categories that sets Percival apart; jumpers, sweaters, chunky wool knits and short sleeve knitted shirts. Spun in cashmere, merino wool, light weight and heavy weight yarns good for summer good for winter, good for you.
Men's Knitwear
We’re rather fond of a good knit at Percival. From chunky wool jumpers and brushed mohair to knitted cardigans and quarter zips, our men’s knitwear is full of interesting yarns, intricate stitching and little details that suggest we might have taken this knitting business a bit too seriously.
Are men's knitted jumpers still in style?
Absolutely. Although asking if knitted jumpers are still stylish is a bit like asking if trousers have had their day. We've been wearing them for centuries. We don't see that changing any time soon.
The trick is finding a knit with a bit of personality. Our White Glove Mohair Jumpers have that soft, brushed texture, while the Vincent V-Neck Jumper brings an alpaca-wool blend and contrast trims to a familiar shape. For something more traditional, a heavy cotton fisherman jumper is difficult to argue with. Wear it with denim, relaxed trousers or beneath a coat. Knitwear has never been particularly fussy.
How to style men's knitwear all year round
Knitwear is like a dog, it’s not just for Christmas and it’s man’s best friend. Crucially, knitwear won’t eat your furniture, so that’s 1-0 to the knitwear on aggregate.
Lightweight knitwear is always a good shout, and Perci’s Knitted Shirts are ideal for layering or wearing on their own when the sun remembers to turn up. When things get colder, bring in the heavier stuff. The Norton Fisherman Zip Cardigan has chunky ribbing, an alpaca-wool blend and a two-way zip, while the Meyer Quarter Zip gives you a heavyweight cotton knit with a boxier fit. Both excellent over a T-shirt. Both considerably easier to look after than a Labrador.
What is the best material for men's knitwear?
Not all wool is created equal. Nor should it be. A chunky fisherman jumper has a very different job from a fine merino knit, and we wouldn't dream of making them behave the same way.
Our Men's Wool Knitwear ranges from insulating alpaca blends to fine merino and brushed mohair, each with its own character. Mohair brings that unmistakable fuzzy texture, while heavyweight cotton gives knitted jumpers structure without quite so much insulation. Then there's the Norton Fisherman Cardigan, combining alpaca and wool in a chunky ribbed knit. A handsome bit of kit. Even better up close.
The different types of men's knitwear every man should own
- Knitted Jumpers – Crew necks, V-necks and chunky fisherman knits. Wear them alone or beneath a coat when things get chilly.
- Men's Cardigans – Zip-ups, collared knits and heavier ribbed styles. Comfortable, versatile and increasingly difficult to leave out of an outfit.
- Knitted Polo Shirts – A little smarter than your average polo. Superb beneath tailoring or worn open at the neck.
- Knitted Shirts – The grown-up hybrid. Smarter than a tee, softer than a traditional collared shirt.
- Quarter Zip Jumpers – A useful middle ground between casual knitwear and something smarter. Zip down for an open collar or zip up when the temperature takes a turn.
- Roll Neck Jumpers – A classic winter layer. The Dylan uses 100% wool, with enough substance to wear beneath an overcoat. No scarf required. Well, probably.
