Calvary twill? Twill is a smooth surfaced fabric with a clean prominent double twill effect. Twill effect? A fabric woven as to have a surface of diagonal parallel ridges. OK, what about the horses? Warp (lengthwise) and weft (crosswise) woven fabric, it was used for hardwearing clothes such as riding trousers – hence the association with British Cavalry officers. The mill weaved it, and we've made it into an Workshirt.
