Our collaboration with Korea-based illustrator Aaron Chang launches this week. His ivy-style illustrations are featured across a capsule edit of our classic embroidery and screen-printed styles.
The illustrations focus on adventure, centred around the three themes of sea, air and land. We spent 5 minutes chatting with Aaron about his background and work. The collection is available now online and in our Percival Soho store.
Hey Aaron! Tell us a bit about yourself and your background
I’m Aaron Chang. Based in Seoul, Korea. I usually draw fashion illustrations, but originally worked as a UXUI & branding designer for 10 years. Shifting towards an illustration focus has been my process of preparing for the next decade.

Where did your interest in creating Ivy Style illustrations come from?
It was originally inspired by street fashion style, as well as classic fashion photographs. But above all, my closet is the source of inspiration. I draw things that I wear or want to wear. I like Ivy-style fashion because it’s both comfortable and formal. Young, free and polite.

Aaron’s work in progress for Percival
What inspires you creatively, and what inspired your illustrations for this project with Percival?
Busan, Korea, which is my hometown. It has incredible sea, sunsets and nature. It is a city optimised for adventure, which is the theme of this project. The colors I usually use – yellow, pink, pale sky blue, and mint – are the colors of my childhood home.
To tell you more about the illustrations I created for this project, since working as a Branding Designer, I’ve always drawn with the idea of creating a ‘logo’ as the end goal. So the three themes of adventure I have created for this collection were expressed simply and symbolically. The sea is a circle, the sky is a square, and the mountain is a triangle. It can be said to be a simple illustration, yet a complex logo. I’ve tried to re-create my childhood experiences symbolically.
Thanks Aaron!
