What to Wear to the Pub: Men's Style Guide

George Orwell once wrote an essay called The Moon Under Water, in which he spent a couple of pages simply describing his ideal pub. It has “the solid, comfortable ugliness of the 19th century”, it sells ciggies and stamps, and it’s got stout on draught. Bit of a mixed bag, is Orwell’s Moon Under Water—you’re definitely not getting ciggies or stamps or liver sausage or mussels or anything like that down your local anymore—and we reckon he’d hate the 21st century. At least, though, we can make sure we all look absolutely class down the boozer, and that is why we are gathered here today.

What do Guys Wear to the Pub?

Depends what you’re at the pub for. You still see older blokes wearing their Sunday best down the pub at the weekend from time to time—shirt & tie, suit jacket, the lot—and, honestly, we respect it, but those fellas are a law unto themself. We’re going to run you through what you might want to wear to the local.

P.S. If you are one of the old geezers wearing your best suit down the boozer every Sunday, please don’t put the moves on our grandma. Cheers.

Casual Pub Outfits for Men

First off, we have the casual fits. The everyday, just-nipping-in-for-a-swift-one fit. The usual.

White T-Shirts and Jeans

If we’re talking casual fits for men, there is literally no look more classic than the White T-shirt and Jeans. If you can nail the white tee and jeans fit, you’ve won, basically. Perci has taken proper, proper care to ensure we’re producing the best white tees and jeans on the market. Smash the basics, the rest follows.

Lightweight Jackets

You can’t be wearing a big coat in the pub—it’s just not cricket. People can’t relax if you’re wearing your outdoor clobber whilst you’re supping an absolute creamer. Let’s get you sorted with a nice lightweight jacket that you can comfortably wear indoors. The Check Anderson Jacket is a pub corker, as is a Sorrento Linen Overshirt.

Smart Casual Outfits for Evening Drinks

If you’re after something a bit more sophisticated, but not too sophisticated—you want to look effortlessly stylish—we got you.

Polo Shirts

A top notch Polo Shirt is about as good as it gets in the smart-casualsphere. Take your pick of Perci’s plethora of perfect polos and you’ll not go far wrong.

Straight Leg Trousers

People have been wearing trousers since some Chinese donny came up with them 12,000-15,000 years ago. Been going strong ever since. Trousers are much older than you, and they’ll be around long after you’re gone as long as there’s not some sort of catastrophic mass extinction event in the next 100 years or so… Fingers crossed, ey? In the meantime, get yourself a nice pair of Trousers for the pub.

Pub Date Outfits

Underrated date venue, the pub, as far as we’re concerned. Good atmosphere, conversation flowing, easily escapable if the craic isn’t flowing. You’re probably gonna need something that makes it look like you’ve made a bit of an effort, though, if you’re going on a pub date.

Long Sleeve Embroidered Shirts

Look what we’ve got for you here! A flipping Arancia Long Sleeve T-Shirt. ‘Arancia’ means ‘orange’ in Italiano, yet our oranges are decidedly yellowy. Talking point. The ice is broken. You ever been to Italy? Puglia? Oh yeah it’s lovely there, isn’t it? That’s where lots of Italians go on staycations. Did you have orecchiette? It means ‘ears’? I didn’t know that. God, you’re cultured. Did you see the old ladies making it on the streets in Bari?

And now you’re married. You’re welcome.

Overshirts

Can’t go wrong with an Overshirt. Long as you don’t call it a ‘shacket’. Never heard of a shacket. Who’s Shacket? He your da’s mate? Overshirts are great, though. The Bormio Jacket is called a ‘jacket’ but it’s an overshirt, really, and it’s great. Keeping with the Italy theme as well, look at this Olive Overshirt. Che bellissimo, no?

Seasonal Pub Attire

Pubs are not immune to seasons. If we had a frigid winter, The Moon Under Water would be The Moon Under Ice. Let’s make sure you’re prepared for the changing of the seasons, eh?

Summer Garden Pubs

If you grew up in the UK or Ireland, you’re aware that if the thermometer mercury strays above about 15 degrees Celsius, you are legally obligated to take yourself to a beer garden and sink pints for the rest of the day, regardless of whatever plans you may or may not have had. It’s like jury service, except everybody loves it. Pint service. Let’s make sure you’re ready for pint service.

Seersucker Shirts

It’s 2025CE, and Seersucker Shirts are rapidly on their way to taking this year’s summer shirt throne. You rock up to the picnic table out the back of The Dog & Duck in a seersucker motherf*cker and people are gonna be staring in the best way possible. Beat the bandwagon on this one, trust us.

Linen Shirts & Trousers

The reigning king of summer isn’t going anywhere for a while. A Linen Shirt and Trousers combo will never let you down in the beer garden.

Winter Pub Nights

Out for a couple of jars with big Jackie Frost? Probably time for something a little bit warmer.

Wool Fleeces

A nice Fleece is classic winter pub attire. Warm and cosy and smart and a bit like getting the hug you secretly crave whilst sipping on ye olde amber nectar.

Straight Leg Jeans

We’re not going to lecture you on Jeans, just know that Perci takes jeans seriously. Have a look for yourself if you reckon we’re making it up. We’ll bar-brawl anyone who disagrees. Bring your snooker cue.

Accessories to Wear to the Pub

You can get a bit creative with your accessories at the pub. Express yourself, mate. Shows confidence, and confidence elevates any fit.

Hats and Caps

Hats & Caps are your accessory go-to. There’s one for everyone in our store, just pick your favourite.

Footwear Choices

Your Footwear is another way to show a bit of personality. You’ve got leather, suede, canvas, loafers, boots, shoes, trainers, slip-ons, lace-ups… Pick your shoes based on the rest of your fit and you’ll be doing well. Ours is a stout, please, by the way. Cheers, mate.
